Primary Goal for 2010: To measure and reduce MIC’s carbon footprint
Results: 774 tCO2e (2009 baseline) / 759 tCO2e (2010) – 2% reduction
Primary Goal for 2012: Achieve ISO 14001 and reduce MIC’s carbon footprint by 5%

Measures for 2012:

Develop a staff engagement programme:
  • Set up a ‘Sustainability Team’ and hold quarterly meetings
  • Hold quarterly staff training workshops and produce quarterly newsletters
Engage with MIC’s supply chain:
  • Complete the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code and the Food for Life catering certification, achieving Gold Marks by the end of the year
  • Gain Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) accreditation
Formalise a waste management system:
  • Recycle plastics and create recycling bin points around MIC
  • Monitor, document and reduce waste production by 5%
Develop a plan for a sustainable refurbishment of MIC’s premises:
  • Finish low-energy lighting retrofit and reduce water consumption by 5%
  • Investigate feasibility of a heat pump, green roof and rainwater harvesting
Work with other organisations to spread best practice in sustainability:
  • Help set up new workshops with the Camden Climate Change Alliance Achieve the Green Tourism and Carbon Champion certifications
