MIC Awarded Social Enterprise Mark

_MG_8439_SocialEnterpriseThe MIC team were presented with the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark at a recent celebratory dinner. MIC is the first ethical hotel to receive such an accolade.

John Nyota, Deputy CEO at MIC commented;
“Our passion at MIC is to do good for people and the planet; to be at the forefront of things that matter such as education and the environment. So on that note, receiving the Social Enterprise Mark is a great honour for MIC. As it is an independent accreditation, it is testament to us getting on to the right path for our company’s future”.

The Government defines social enterprises as "businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners."

Lesley Foster of the Social Enterprise Mark Company CIC presented the MIC team with the mark at a dinner held on Monday 27th September in conjunction with British Food Fortnight.

“As the distinctive and exciting brand for social enterprise, the Mark identifies businesses which meet defined criteria that define enterprises trading to benefit people and planet. The Mark helps those businesses promote their business ethics and values. We are delighted to welcome MIC as the first ethical hotel to receive this award and have no doubt they will inspire others to follow this great example of social enterprise.” Lesley said

Launched in February 2010, The Social Enterprise Mark recognises businesses that meet highly defined criteria of social enterprise, have high standards of sustainable business practice and offer a benefit to their community.

Peter Holbrook, Chief Executive of the Social Enterprise Coalition said; “The Social Enterprise Mark shows that an organisation is a true social enterprise.”
